Federico Collins Tucapel Captain

Federico Captain Collins surrounded by family

the main word: sacrifice their principles and ideals so indicated, but it is also true that Captain Collins had been "sacrificed" by the popular legend of a people that through oral history of their ancestors had enough imagination to pay an unrealistic number of stories which they attribute to the master of the responsibility of the sinking ship. In the village of Chule or Camaná, you could hear those words are considered hereditary in this story that: "The ship sank because the captain was in love with a beautiful camaneja, and the helmsman also did the same, both the captain and the boat came to discuss because of this beautiful lady, therefore neglected the course and the ship sank. Others are more bold to say that the captain came to his boat and took refuge with the lady in the sector of the pampas, where it remained hidden to avoid being lynched by villagers due to his irresponsible attitude. So, as you can see, all popular versions coincide in pointing to the captain as the cause of the sinking of the ship, some attributed to drunkenness and be a promoter of a wild party. The truth is that after many years finally able to review the diaries and testimony of the era in which highlighted the figure of Captain Collins as one of the main heroes of this eponymous tragedy, in which decides to stay to die in the ship, making sure that first the passengers are safe. This year we are commemorating the centennial slides of the wreck of Tucapel is appropriate to give our tribute and appreciation to the noble, calm and intelligent as captain describe what the dr. Cesar Augusto Maradiegue to say goodbye before leaving the ship

Juan Carlos Gamarra Salazar Tucapel shipwreck researcher

Juan Carlos Gamarra Salazar, natural son of the province of Camaná is certainly the model of a tenacious and persevering person, service oriented and consistent with their ideals. Juan Carlos Gamarra is responsible for Camaná, Peru and why not say the whole world know the story of the sinking of Tucapel, when a June 5, 2005 LOCATION FOR accidentally (in line with other research) that developers files historic shipwreck. That same day he sent an email to your friend Eduardo Sarabia Huayapan who shared this important event as follows:"I Nutsche emotion to connect after several days of patient search on the file of the Institute of Maritime Studies, Peru's navy could provide me with some pictures that look spectacular and I did not think existed, it is the wreck of TUCAPEL boat against Girl I had gone to collect some evidence to Pepe's grandchildren of the survivors even we took some pictures of the remains of old hoops Tucapel ... ... but I never imagined that I would find some pictures taken by a sailor of the time in which the ship is sinking, as well as another in which it appears that the brave fishermen camanejos came to the rescue of the victims, five of whom drowned and civilian heroes who are anonymous. The task of achieving the photos is complicated because you need money, or about three hundred suns, but the important thing is that I have with them and I will find the mechanism to have them in my power ... you think that there is a panoramic photograph of two meters the municipality with the sinking ship .. so tell me is recontradificil find a case where you have been able to take a picture of a sinking ship and much more difficult if this is the year 1911 ... I feel a great satisfaction by this discovery, because I will bring with it the interest of tourism and cultural aspects of my country ...! living hell Camaná camanejos live our civilian heroes who gave their lives to rescue the Peruvian and Chilean ¡¡¡¡¡

After this event got the co participation historian Alejandro Reyes Flores, who traveled to Camaná to supplement the information noted.
Juan Carlos reconstructed the history and managed to publish the novel "The Wreck of Tucapel" in October 2009 with imprint of San Marcos, a prestigious Peruvian publisher brought out this important story. In these five years have conducted interviews exhibitions, photographic and presentation of the novel in Arequipa, Camana, Tacna and lime is still pending the presentation of history in the neighboring country of Chile.Juan Carlos Gamarra, as referred to in the introduction to his book, despite having a thriving performance as a sports psychologist having worked at major institutions of Arequipa, was able to go for a challenging project that was far radically from their training and their specialty, all for the commitment to contribute to his people and his country.
And although we know that has often been misunderstood and ignored, he has managed to stand up and show everyone that when you dream you can also awaken the desire become reality, a reality Tucapel rescued from the legend and exposed humanity today .
